![]() IMO epic is fairly good in someways, but I admit there are massive areas needed to be improved. TLDR:I can agree on some parts, but there is alot more nuance. Ideally by a restructuring, and highering of more teachers. Which is a huge problem, and needs it to be solved. Epic suffers from this issue, but at a larger scale.Īlso it's thought they stole a bunch of money, and that "they" being the founders paying a private company they owned to do admin work wayyyy more than what was reasonable. Our public school teachers are also overworked and spread thin. Which is why in some parts of our state their are classes of 30-45 kids in a tiny room. We aren't paying out teachers enough, so fewer people want to be teachers, leading to fewer in the state. Not to justify, but it seems to be much more of an issue we see in all schools, just at a larger scale. I will admit while epic does need to pay their teachers more, they get paid more than your average public school teachers. But wouldn't it be different if, let's say a school we're to be pan-oklahoma? Spanning the red river to mincho, to Lawton? ![]() I agree, at large the way we pay our teachers, and structure school funding is extremely problematic. Oklahoma's GOP governor, Kevin Stitt, used $10 million of the nearly $40 million in his governor-controlled fund to create a stay-in-school program that funded scholarships for lower-income students who already attend private schoolsĪnd- the state literally passed a constitutional amendment to NOT raise taxes without a 75% legislative supermajority because of HB1017. sorry for formatting, mobile Reddit is assĮspecially with the amount of taxes going to the public school system. Ide love to get y'all's input, and to have a discussion more nuanced then what I've seen. ![]() because it's all digital and you work at your own pace, If a student wasn't able to work online, like what happened during COVID-19, they are not going to learn well through epic. You have to be the right fit to learn with epic though. Allowing students who could never afford Access to like,ĭrivers Ed, cooking classes, instrument lessons -beyond the large, but limit selection of band and orchestra, So for my part I'll go first.Īs a student who had graduated epic charter, ide say while there needs to be changes to the administration, epic charter provides a great service for students with it's learning fund program the learning fund provides funding for students in poverty to do more extracurriculars then what could be received at a public school. I have noticed a large amount of discourse on the school, mostly towards the negative, but it all seems to focus around the administration and the lawsuits surrounding it, very little on how epic could help/harm actual students. Hey R/Oklahoma, I'm curious on everyone's honest opinions on epic charter schools? If you have a Reddit meetup planned, please create a post and then message the moderators.
