The next time Antilles hit the screen came in Star Wars Rebels when his image was modeled after Lawson's appearance with voice work provided by Nathan Kress. In The Empire Strikes Back, Lawson provided the voice without any over-dubbing, as he had worked on his American accent to make the character his own. However, his voice is played by another actor the audience never sees. While this was happening, Ankrum continued to dub the lines, so Wedge Antilles' first appearance in A New Hope is played physically by two actors. This was due to Higgins' inability to remember his lines, resulting in his termination from the production. Inside the cockpit of his X-Wing, Wedge suddenly looks different because he was played by Lawson. ![]() Higgins only played Antilles during the pictured Death Star briefing scene. Because George Lucas wanted him to have an American accent, he had another actor, David Ankrum, dub over Higgin's dialogue, so there are already two people playing him in A New Hope. In A New Hope, he was played by Colin Higgins (pictured). While it's well known that Wedge Antilles was played by Denis Lawson, that little fact makes the portrayal of the character incredibly strange and confusing. He joined Calrissian aboard the Millennium Falcon, which arrived above the planet only moments after Snap's death. Later, when Lando put out the call for allies, Antilles didn't hesitate to join the fight. They agreed to come out of retirement to join the Resistance by taking part in a mission to Corellia, Antilles' home planet. The news of their old allies' deaths shocked Wedge and Norra to their core. They told him of the Battle of Crait and the deaths of Admirals Ackbar, Holdo, and Statura. Before the assault on Exegol, Antilles was retired and living with Norra when they were visited by Snap and his wife. ![]() It was great to see Lawson reprise his role, but his appearance was more than an actor's cameo because it extended the story of Wedge Antilles. Instead of piloting his own X-Wing into combat, he hopped aboard the Millennium Falcon, where he manned the guns. He was aboard one of the many vessels called to action at the Battle of Exegol to comprise the citizens' fleet. ![]() The last canon appearance of Wedge Antilles in a feature film (so far) came via a surprise cameo of Denis Lawson in The Rise of Skywalker. Check the facts out below, and be sure to upvote your favorites! This list aims to fix all of that by highlighting some of the more interesting things you probably didn't know about Wedge Antilles. After all, most fans know a ton about the likes of Darth Vader and Ahsoka Tano, while the more interesting tidbits about pilots like Wedge fall to the wayside. It's not surprising that more has gone on behind the scenes concerning Wedge than other popular characters. Wedge Antilles may be the best pilot in the Rebellion, but so much happened off the screen that only the most hard-core fans know about his involvement with Phantom Squadron, the Battle of Jakku, and other interesting facts. Wedge is an important minor character for a number of reasons, but because he wasn't heavily featured in the original Star Wars trilogy, there are tons of things you probably don't know about him. Of course, that doesn't mean much to fans of the franchise, and whenever Wedge pops up on the silver screen, theaters across the globe are filled with cheers. Rebel fighter pilot Wedge Antilles has long been a fan favorite from the original Star Wars trilogy, which is saying something, seeing as the guy only had very few lines of dialogue compared to someone like Han Solo or Luke Skywalker.
